India and its diversity have captivated travel enthusiasts across the globe. In the digital age where travel vlogging has become a medium to boost tourism, India attracted several creators over the years. A Danish-Aussie travel vlogger, Ella Jo is grabbing eyeballs after she described four types of Indian head nods she observed during her stay in the country.
Jo runs a YouTube channel, Living the Jo life, which has more than 190K subscribers. The creator recently visited India and created a video on types of Indian nods out of her observation. The video starts with Jo saying, “While traveling around India, I have noticed four variations of the head nod and it is a gesture of agreeance.” She then goes on and describe each head nod.
Sharing the video on her Instagram handle, Jo wrote, “4 Types of Indian Head Nods.”

Video triggers debate on social media
The video has garnered over 20 million views on Instagram. While a section of users applauded Jo for her observation and for appreciating the Indian culture, others debated over ‘racism’. A foreign user mocked India and commented, “Still the nastiest nation in the world.” Another user wrote, “Funny how an Aussie is imitating a custom which is deeply rooted in culture. Just be your Aussie self!”
“Stay safe and bless you my country’s people are helpful and friendly but yeah careful with some low mindset people,” an Indian user advised Jo. “I have seen head nods in every country I have travelled to,” yet another user argued.
Katrina Kaif started her acting career in 2003 with Boom. In her initial days, she faced quite a bit of criticism for not being able to speak in Hindi which prompted her to learn the language to be able to deliver her lines herself. She told Mid Day, "It was hard work. The first thing I did was to learn to read in Devnagri (script) and that was the base which saved me."
